Disney Cruise Line – Going to Port Canaveral
You have three options when you’re looking to book yourself on the Disney Cruise Line for getting to Port Canaveral; you can drive to the port, Ground Transfers, and Town Car Service. With driving and a town car you can get to the port really early, just remember that the port doesn’t open until 11am, and it really isn’t worth it to get there earlier than that.
Disney Cruise Line – Driving
While driving to the Disney Cruise Line port is nice, realize that parking at the port is very expensive; 3-night cruise – $60, 4-night cruise – $75, 5-night cruise – $90 & 7-night cruise – $120. You can even get preferred parking for $25 per day.
What some people do is rent a car at the airport, then stay in a hotel near the port that night. The next morning they will drop off the car at the rental car company. Then you can have the rental car company drop them off at the port. I would
just make sure you book it that way, if you choose this method of rental return.
Disney Cruise Line – Ground Transfers
One way to do your port transfer is with a Ground Transfer through the Disney Cruise Line. Depending on the number of people going, this can be more expensive than renting a car or using a town car service. Make sure you compare rates both ways.
When doing a ground transfer, you’re given special Disney Cruise Line luggage tags. You can then check them in at the airport when you’re flying in if it is the same day as the cruise (however I do advise against arriving the same day as an unexpected flight delay could ruin your whole trip) and then they are delivered right to your room aboard the Disney Cruise Line ship.
When staying at the Hyatt in MCO you can take advantage of the tags as well. When you fly in you pick up your bags and go straight to your room. The next morning, you set your bags outside your door with the luggage tags, and they are delivered to Disney. You just go down to the terminal and fully check in for the cruise. You also get the bags later in the day sent direct to your room.
Disney Cruise Line – Town Car Service
Lastly, you can ride in a town car to get to the port. This can even end up being cheaper than Disney Cruise Line Ground Transfers and get you to the port without having to deal with other people. You just leave when you want to.
There are many such services, just make sure you research them. I have never used one as I like to stay at the Hyatt, but I may try it for my next trip sailing on the Disney Cruise Line.
In the end, I like to plan my cruise as planning is my favorite part of any vacation, aside from the actual time spent on vacation. Pick the service that best suits how you want to travel. While I do like the convenience and the low hassle of the ground transfers, every method of getting to Port Canaveral works.
