The Wave…of American Flavors, usually just called The Wave (even on the signs located at the front of the establishment) is a restaurant found in the lobby of Disney’s Contemporary resort right next to the check-in counter. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served here at The Wave as well as a wide variety of beverages both alcoholic and non, including 8 different tea selections. A separate The Wave menu for kids has been devised for all three meals, presented in the usual Disney style as an activity sheet with a menu printed on it. The price range of all the dishes served at The Wave is usually between $15 and $35.
The Wave Menu
A unique selection of fresh fruits and a continental breakfast are offered as appetizers on the breakfast menu. Eggs cooked in various forms like eggs benedict, egg white frittata, scrambled eggs and omelets can be consumed for breakfast. Waffles and pancakes are also available for breakfast along with muesli and multi-grain French toast. Breakfast potatoes and biscuits are the usual accompaniments for all breakfast dishes. Oatmeal, muffins, croissants, cheese grits as well as bacon and various kinds of sausages like pork and chicken are available as side dishes on the breakfast menu. The breakfast menu for kids consists of cereals, sweet potato pancakes, eggs and waffles.
The Wave offers various selections of tea and coffee along with breakfast. People averse to caffeine can opt for caffeine free tea like chamomile blossoms, vanilla rooibos, energy tea and relax tea. The normal varieties of tea like green tea and earl grey can also be found. Other alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages can be also consumed along with breakfast. Bay Lake Sunrise and Pomegranate Splash are the breakfast cocktails offered. They contain vodka and liqueur combined with a light topping of Sprite or soda water, depending on which you order. The as well as the regular sodas and juices, the non-alcoholic beverages include smoothies made using lemons and berries and also contain Omega 3 and fiber.
The choice of beverages has been increased to a vast extent for the The Wave lunch menu. The alcoholic beverages include cocktails, beer and wine for the wine enthusiasts. The non-alcoholic beverages include fruit punch, smoothies and
milkshakes. After the drinks, people can move onto the appetizers. The crab and shrimp cakes are a famous appetizer served at The Wave. The pan-seared sea scallops and the black bean chili with pork tenderloin are some of the other appetizers The Wave has to offer. Customers can also opt for the seasonal soup or the harvest salad.
The Wave entrees contain many varieties of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. Vegetarians can opt for the jade rice along with vegetable curry stew or the vegetarian Cuban sandwich. The Asian chicken salad and the Mediterranean tuna salads are some of the entrees served along with dishes made using turkey and bison.
The Wave lunch and dinner menu for kids consists of salads, chicken strips, pasta and cheeseburgers. Fruit salad is served as a dessert for kids as well as vanilla gelato sundae, brown sugar apples and yogurt parfait.
The beverages and appetizers served at The Wave during dinner are similar to those served at lunch time. Beef short ribs, beef tenderloin, pork tenderloin and chili marinated flat iron steak are some of the other items which can only be found on the dinner menu. The Wave offers a dessert menu for adults which contains dessert wines and cocktails to accompany the regular dessert options, including the selection of sorbets on the menu.
Having eaten both lunch and dinner at The Wave…of American Flavors, I can honestly say this is a restaurant I have no trouble returning to again and again. Plus it has the added bonus of being pretty much in my Disney Vacation Club home resort so if the weather suddenly takes a downturn I don’t have far to go for good food.
