Disney Vacation Club Points – How Many Should you Buy?
Today I had lunch with a good friend of mine that is thinking about buying into the Disney Vacation Club. We covered a lot of the topics I have posted about in previous postings, but one thing I haven’t discussed is how many Disney Vacation Club points you should purchase. So, how many Disney Vacation Club points are good for you? I used a formula to help me figure this out, and hopefully it will help you. I’m going to also post a formula to help you understand the numbers behind how much your room is costing you based on your points.
First, look at the Disney Vacation Club resort you would want to stay at, when you would go, and for how long and calculate the number of Disney Vacation Club points needed. If you’re going every two years, you need half the Disney Vacation Club points you just calculated due to the banking/borrowing rules. So, it really all depends how often you want to go and where you will stay. If you would go twice a year, you would just figure out the number of Disney Vacation Club points per year and that’s what you would want to buy.
The number of Disney Vacation Club points you buy is always relative to these factors. I don’t portion out how many points should be used on cruises, as most of my point use is on hotels. If you’re interested in me adding the cruise point chart, please post and I’ll do so.
Disney Vacation Club Points Cost
Lastly, how does one value the Disney Vacation Club points cost, you have to estimate what you would pay per stay? This is a wee bit complicated. Take how much you are buying your Disney Vacation Club points at and divide it by the number of years left on the contract and add in the maintenance fees. So, if you bought 300 Bay Lake Tower points and that resort expires in 2060. That would be $6.12 per point. Add in the 2011 maintenance cost of $3.89 and it jumps to $10.01 per point. So, a 1-bedroom lake view room at Bay Lake Tower would cost you $2962.96 while getting it direct from Disney would run you $3,206 (based on current rates).
Disney Vacation Club points Savings add up over time, and while your rate is locked in, in time Disney’s room rates will go up.
You should consider all the implications of buying before you do. If you’re looking to buy direct use the contact us form, and ill give you the information of my personal guide. He has been great with me over the years, and gives me information without any pressure.
