Disneyland at Christmas
It’s not just a tree with ornaments and ribbons on Main Street…
The best Disneyland at Christmas event…
For the last several years from mid-September through early January, Disneyland has changed The Haunted Mansion into Haunted Mansion Holiday. During this time the attraction is themed after Tim Burton’s A Nightmare Before
Christmas”. As you walk through the front gates of the attraction you’re greeted by Jack Skellington sitting atop a Jack O’ Lantern and contemplating a snowflake. The interior of the building is redecorated in neon accented images from the movie, starting with the stretching pictures in the elevator room and continuing with the changing images in the picture hallway. The Bride’s attic is taken over by Santa Jack’s Naughty and Nice List and the eerie Halloween world version of Christmas presents. Jack replaces the frightened cemetery caretaker and greets you as you enter the graveyard for the final scene of the ride and three Halloween inspired presents replace the familiar hitchhiking ghosts.
Another Disneyland at Christmas event…
A less well known Disneyland at Christmas event is the selling of the handmade candy canes available in limited quantities on select days through December. The dates for 2011 are December 2, 6, 9, 12, 16, 21, and 24. The candy canes go very quickly and are limited to 1 per person and cost $12.95 each. Some of the days the candy canes are made are early admission days for hotel guests only and require a room key or special tickets for entrance. Magic Morning early admission days are usually Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Because of this, the best course of action is to spend the night before at one of the hotels, get up very early to be near the front of the entrance line for the park, and rush to the candy store. Once you’re in line at the candy store (there may be a wait before this happens), a cast member will give you a number and a time to return for your treat.
These candy canes make a rare treat, as its not often that you get a handmade candy cane and can watch them make them. Disneyland at Christmas is a great joy for any family.
